Boulders at Joshua Tree

This is a digital painting I did for the facebook group, Virtual Plein Air. They paint "on site" virtually using google maps street views for the reference. So much fun! 

I wanted to emulate the traditional painting process as much as possible with this, so there was just one layer, no ctrl z (undo), no crazy custom brushes, and no photo textures of course. Next time, I will also try to "hand mix" my colors from a limited palette. I'm doing that to sort of mentally prepare myself for doing oil paintings this summer, as I have been working 100% digital for the last 3 years.
